Worldwide media tablet sales to consumers will grow to 63.6 million units, up 261.4% from 2010 sales of 17.6 million units Gartner estimated in a report released Thursday.
The big winner: Apple. Apple’s iPad will grab 73.4% of the worldwide media tablet mareket in 2011, down from 83% in 2010.
“Apple delivers a superior and unifed user experience,” Carolina Milanesi, research vice president at Gartner said in a statement.
No other platform will get more than 5 percent of the market, Gartner estimates (see chart). All the tablets built around Google’s Android operating system add up to just 17.3% of the market, up slightly from 14.3% in 2010.
No one is poised to grab a significant piece of the media tablet away from Apple, according to tech tracker Gartner.
