Mobile social gaming network OpenFeint has released an Android app for searching for games on its games catalogue.

Game Channel is already available on iOS devices but the Android version of the app will allow the company to promote its Android  games with free-to-play games a particular focus.

OpenFeint – which has 128 million registered users and more than 7,000 game titles – said game discovery is a significant problem for games developers and consumers as the Android market matures and competes with the iOS game ecosystem.

The app has a Featured Game section to promote a game chosen by OpenFeint for fixed periods, increasing their exposure to users. Like the iOS version, the Android edition also includes a Free Game of the Day. Many of the games will include free in-app items, according to OpenFeint.

There is a Curated Game Lists highlighting the top Android games and based on player feedback. Lists will include Free Games That Rock, Feint’s Featured Picks, New Games that We Love.

Game Channel also incorporates OpenFeint’s social features, allowing users to access their profile space from within the app.

Sony launched its Video Unlimited movie and TV rental service on its Tablet S on Thursday.

Video Unlimited offers more than 6,500 films and over 40,000 TV episodes from just about all the major studios and networks and many indies, and can be found on Sony Ericsson phones, Sony Blu-ray players, PCs, TVs and the company's PlayStation gaming consoles.

"The goal and the strength of Sony is that our services are offered across our hardware, that we can bring together all we do and offer a consistent user experience and high level of quality," Aragon said. "So, obviously our highest priority is on the Tablet S at this point and other Android devices will come after that."

Lenovo to launch the Idea Tablet A1, 7 inch 8GB for $199,99 in late September 2011.

Lenovo expects to ship 1.5-2 million tablet PCs, consisting of 400,000-500,000 ThinkPad series business-use models and 1-1.5 million IdeaPad K1, A1 and other series consumer models, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

While demand in the US and Europe has been weak due to economic impacts, Lenovo has not held a conservative attitude and instead sees 2011 as a good opportunity for it to hike its global tablet PC market share, the sources said. However, many tablet PC and component makers are conservative about Lenovo's ability to reach its shipment goals, the sources indicated.

Lenovo plans to launch the IdeaPad Tablet A1, a 7-inch Android 2.3 8GB tablet PC with GPS, by the end of September at a retail price of US$199.99, which would make it the cheapest 7-inch tablet PC model available for sale so far.

Voxofon is the only VoIP international calling provider offering dedicated applications for all major smartphone platforms, according to a Nielson study- “Manufacturer operating system share – smartphones.”

The report indicates that Android, iPhone, BlackBerry  Windows Phone 7 and HP Palm webOS were the five leading operating systems comprising 98% of the US smartphone market i.n the three month period ending June 2011.

Voxofon emphasizes its commitment to the growing market as a whole and not just the most popular or profitable smartphones. The company notes that this is important because the new users select their handset based on individual preferences and not market share.

"You are no longer bound to any particular place or communication device. Voxofon makes international calling cross platform," said Alexey Goloshubin , president of Voxofon. "We at Voxofon are concerned about our customers' flexibility: people change their devices and places of living, and Voxofon will always be there for them, no matter what phone our clients are currently using."

Voxofon services offer a range of features and including simplicity, affordability, quality, security and efficient customer support.

The company has allowed calling abroad from any phone exceptionally easy. Calling is also very affordable because Voxofon prices start at a penny per minute.

Voxofon claims it always uses reliable, high quality routes for connecting calls abroad and also protects information so that users can make calls abroad safely. Also, it offers timely resolution of any customer issue or concern.

GameTanium Mobile by Exent debuts Android subscription games service.

WorldWide Tech and Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Exent announced the launch of GameTanium Mobile, which it described as “the first and only all-you-can-eat subscription service for mobile devices offering unlimited game play of the hottest games on Android.”

Customers download an enabling app and pay US$4.99 per month in order to access a portfolio of games – currently 75 are available, with the intention to grow to more than 200 by the end of the year. The company highlighted the potential for the technology to be a money spinner for operators – “operators can extend their brand, games offering and subscriber engagement to new screens, increasing average revenue per user (ARPU) and strengthening brand loyalty and retention,” it said.

According to Exent, which is the PC games on-demand supplier to companies including T-Mobile and Verizon, GameTanium Mobile was “built specifically with carriers in mind.” It is said to mix Exent’s “content and programming expertise” alongside carrier channels and billing, to “increase conversion exponentially and provide a healthier ecosystem for monetisation on Android.” The solution can be customised for operators, including through branded UIs or tailored pricing and packaging.

There are some drawbacks to GameTanium Mobile. Because the enabling app acts as a distribution channel for other software, it falls foul of Android Market guidelines which state that alternative app stores cannot be distributed via this channel. And because it cannot be distributed via Android Market, this means it cannot be installed on devices that do not support apps installed from other sources – some operators “lock” devices to only permit Android Market downloads, for example.  It is supported by devices running Android 2.2 or higher, but is not currently compatible with tablet devices.
