Amazon is expected to outsource the production of 10.1-inch tablet PCs to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), and shipments of the 10.1-inch tablets are likely to begin before year-end 2011 for holiday-season demand, according to industry sources. A Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) plant in Brazil is ready to start producing Apple's iPads with shipments to begin in December, according to a recent report by Brazil-based UOL, citing Brazil's minister of science and technology Aolizio Mercadante.

The plant reportedly is a joint venture between Foxconn and the government of Brazil, with Foxconn contributing a capital of US$12 million. Industry watchers in Taiwan originally expected the plant to kick off commercial operations in the first quarter of 2012.

As Apple is expected to launch its new generation iPad in early 2012, the Foxconn plant in Brazil is likely to begin production with iPad 3, the sources asserted.

The iPad 3 is expected to be a minor upgrade to the device, and it’s rumored to have a higher-resolution “Retina Display” screen and better cameras.

The new iPad plant in Brazil is reportedly a joint venture between the Brazilian government and Foxconn, with Foxconn putting up $15 million.
